George H. Weyerhaeuser Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award
The business leader and advocate for sustainable forest management was an early and continuing supporter of political leaders whose pragmatic approach and other values are promoted by the Cascade Conference.October 24--The Cascade Conference Lifetime achievement award for 2019 goes to business legend George H. Weyerhaeuser, the former CEO of the company that bears his family name.Recognized for creating a culture of active civic engagement at his company, Harvard Business School named Weyerhaeuser one of the country’s great business leaders of the 20th century. Weyerhaeuser was an early advocate for a sustainable forest management ethic at his company, and was a leader in showing the benefits of free trade, including with Asia.He was also an early and critical supporter for Daniel J. Evans’ successful challenge to unseat an incumbent Washington governor and has supported many of our state’s other successful elected officials, many of whom have been active participants in the Cascade Conference over the last 50 years.Gov.
