Here's why WA foresters are backing Jaime Herrera Beutler for Lands Commissioner

Dear Friend,

The state’s foresters are backing Jaime Herrera Beutler for state Commissioner of Public Lands. They have a message for the rest of us. There really is a clear choice this November for Lands Commissioner – and this election counts.

Jaime has been endorsed by the Washington Forest Protection Association, several unions led by the WA Pulp and Paper Workers, local officials and every other forestry organization in the state.

They understand what is at stake in this year’s race, and we see it, too. We hope you’ll spread the word to family, friends, co-workers – this Nov. 5, it’s Jaime for Lands Commissioner.

Jaime will bring thoughtful leadership to the Department of Natural Resources. She stands for sustainable management of Washington’s 5.6 million acres of forests and aquatic areas. That means a balanced approach to environmental protection and timber harvests. Our rural economy depends on it, and so do our schools.

Her Democratic opponent, meanwhile, is the candidate of urban activist groups. He wants to undo this balance by declaring large swaths of forest off-limits – nearly 80,000 acres to start. He would create tinder boxes for forest fires and fire smoke everywhere in the state.

So much for balance. So much for our public schools, our rural economy, and the money we need to manage our forests to prevent wildfires. During 15 years in Congress and the state Legislature, Jaime forged bipartisan compromises on issues ranging from fire protection to improving forest roads. Her track record leaves no doubt.

Jaime will be the Lands Commissioner Washington needs.

This race will be tight. The issues are clear. The choice is obvious. We hope you will join us in supporting Jamie Herrera Beutler for Lands Commissioner during the final critical weeks that remain in this year’s campaign – and especially on Nov. 5, when every vote will count.

Best,

Deanna Martinez, Board Chair and the Mainstream Republicans of Washington Board of Directors - Senator Chris Gildon, Senator Nikki Torres, Commissioner Kyle Curtis, Commissioner Mary Kuney, Councilmember Paul Herrera, Councilmember Peter Condyles, Representative JT Wilcox, Representative Kevin Waters, Representative Mike Steele, Rob McKenna, Sam Reed, Gretchen Borck, Bob Thomas, Kathy Lambert, Erik Smith, Amy Harris, Erin Richards, Jim Waldo, Herb Krohn, Monica Marchetti, Kirk Robbins, Aaron Hallenberg, Andrew Stevens, Louise Miller, Anthony Hemstad
