Mainstream Republicans of Washington select Deanna Martinez, Moses Lake councilwoman, as chair

Moses Lake city councilwoman Deanna Martinez has been elected chair of the Mainstream Republicans of Washington, dedicated to promotion of mainstream Republican principles statewide.

Martinez leads a new slate of executive officers taking charge this month. Also named were Peter Condyles, vice chair for operations, and Marissa Gaston, vice chair for events.

“I’m excited to help bring new perspectives and ideas to our party in this year of great opportunity for the people of the Evergreen State,” Martinez said. “MRW Alliance has always advocated a pragmatic, responsible and balanced approach to issues that are most concerning for voters today, like public safety, homelessness and runaway government spending. By being in the political center on issues, and continuing to connect with voters who reflect the diversity of our state, we will help shape a winning future for Washington.”

The Mainstream Republicans of Washington organization got its start in 1969 with the annual Cascade Conference, currently held each year in Leavenworth. In 1990, MRW established a political action committee to promote candidates with mainstream values.

Martinez, a registered nurse at Othello Community Hospital, is active in community organizations including Kiwanis and the Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation. She was elected to the Moses Lake City Council in November 2021. She takes over from Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring, who chaired the organization for the previous two years.

Condyles, of Marysville, is senior project manager at Toyer Strategic Advisors, a land use and economic development firm based in Lake Stevens. 

"During my time on the board I have seen firsthand the experience and dedication of every member of Mainstream,” Condyles said. “I look forward to continuing to work with them in this new role. MRW is an organization that can help the Republican party truly reach its potential as a ‘big tent.’ There is a new generation of Republicans and conservatives that are ready and eager to carry the ideals of Reagan forward, and Mainstream is going to have an important role in that. Together we can affect positive policy change that makes the Evergreen State the best place possible to live."

Gaston, of Seattle, is director of the Young Professionals program for the Washington Policy Center.

Nehring remains on the organization’s board. “It has been an honor to serve as MRW's Board Chair these past couple years,” he said. “We have focused on building bridges toward unity around principles of good conservative governance such as strong public safety, fiscal responsibility, free enterprise and economic growth, and individual freedom and responsibility.”
